HOW A BRIDGE ALIGNMENT IS SELECTED
The process of selecting a bridge alignment is illustrated below.
The project team identified 15 alignment options at the start of the project based on a study conducted as part of the I-205 Improvements: Stafford Road to OR 213 Project and multiple feedback channels at the start of this project, which were screened down to the five most promising options. The team is now analyzing those top five options.

Identify and Screen Potential Bridge Alignments
Fifteen potential bridge alignments were identified through initial technical evaluation (see TM#2: Identify Crossing Alignments) conducted by the project team and discussions with project partner agencies and elected officials, stakeholder interviews, and input from the project advisory committee.
The project management team screened the 15 alignment options based on cost, technical feasibility and input from partner agencies, stakeholders and the project advisory committee. Based on this initial screen effort, the following five most promising alignment options were identified for further evaluation:
-
Alignment 1c: 4th Street to Mill Street;
-
Alignment 2b: 5th Street to Mill Street;
-
Alignment 4a: Main Street to Mill Street;
-
Alignment 6: 9th Street to Willamette Drive; and,
-
Alignment 7b: 10th Street to OR 43.
Evaluating the Five Most Promising Alignment Options
The next step is to evaluate the remaining five most promising alignments using criteria based on local and regional transportation goals. A preliminary scoring is provided in the table below based on initial analysis. Additional analysis is still being carried out. You can see how each option was scored in the table below. Your input and additional analysis will be used to refine this evaluation.
